  1. A wonderfully idiosyncratic 2LP set released shortly after Johnny Dyani's death, and featuring 2 mid 80s sessions from the UK. The first album features Dyani's trio Detail – which includes Frode Gjerstad on tenor and John Stevens on drums. This group plays a spare out track called "Ness", which spans all of album 1, and features some great moody basslines by Dyani. Record 2.
  2. There was death and grief, but also forgiveness, reinvention and love: coming to terms with the past and acceptance of the present and trying to stay open to the future. The result is an album that's gorgeous and startling, quietly strange, a shining desert record with a bit of dusty rose over all its 13 tracks.
  3. A spiritual jazz treasure from drummer Doug Hammond – and a set that also features a very unusual group! The lineup features Doug's core trio with Muneer Abdul Fataah on cello and a very young Steve Coleman on alto – the latter of whom is free and fantastic, and maybe looser here in Hammond's company than on some of his own recordings to come! Byard Lancaster joins the group Missing: Frode Wassvik.
  4. LP, Vinyl record album and Dicky Wells – all numbers that might just feature Young but not Basie. There's even a few with singer Una Mae Carlisle, and a few other tracks feature vocals – although the bulk of the work is instrumental. "We Hate To See Them Go", "Oh Doctor", and "There'll Come A Time". LP, Vinyl record album (Heavy Missing: Frode Wassvik.
